Frequently Asked Questions

Thomas Tenney arrived in Rowley, MA in 1638

bulletQ:  Is my e-mail private or will someone be able to read it at the organization?
A:  Our e-mail servers are hosted by an internet service provider.  We do not receive copies of any of your mail and remains in our system only a brief moment while it is being relayed on to your existing mail account.  It's as private as your current account provides.
bulletQ:  Do I lose my old e-mail account and will I have to tell people about my new address?
A:  No, you do not have to give up your old address.  In fact, both addresses will still work.  We simply forward mail received at tenneyfamily.org to your current mail account so it's up to you which e-mail address you give to people.
bulletQ:  Will my e-mail appear as though it is coming from my new tenneyfamily.org address?
A:  Yes if you update your e-mail software to show your new address.  Some internet providers don't allow this however.  AOL is an example of this.  AOL users can not change the address of where their e-mail appears to originate.  Same holds true for most free e-mail accounts like Juno, Hotmail and others.  If you have a regular internet service provider and you use a mail client like Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape or Eudora you can change the reply address in your e-mail client.  Check your set up for where the reply address is listed.
bulletQ:  I use AOL or one of the free e-mail clients.  Can I get a full POP3 account allowing me to send and receive mail from tenneyfamily.org?
A:  Currently no.  However, if you are interested in this service please let us know.  If there is a lot of interest here it may be something we will offer.  This service would require an annual fee currently and are not sure if there is any interest at this time.
bulletQ:  My spouse and I would like to have our own e-mail address.  Is this possible?
A:  Yes!  You can have as many names as you want.  They can be sent to the same e-mail account at your current internet service provider or to different addresses.  If you would like more than one e-mail address then fill out the form once for each desired address (with alternates).  Include a note asking about discounts for multiple addresses.   To get multiple addresses you may be required to upgrade your association fees to a family membership.
bulletQ:  I have other questions related to this service.  How can I get them answered?
A:  Simple!  Click on this hyperlink and send a message to our webmaster.
bulletQ:  How do I test to see  if my new e-mail address is working?
A:  We have set up an autoresponder at test@tenneyfamily.org.  You can send a message to this address and within moments you will get a message back if your e-mail is working properly.  The To: field in the message shows what others see as your e-mail address.
