Spring 2008
For the first time, in a very long time, this newsletter’s Genealogist
Corner article is concerning something IN ADDITION to the Book Project!
We need our member’s help solving 3 (yes 3!) family “searches”:
1) Is there anyone in the vicinity of Newbury, Vermont that can take
some photos for me? Unfortunately, Marjorie, our wonderful Librarian at the
Tenney Memorial Library is unable to assist in this request. We need to
photograph General Jacob Bayley’s house and historic marker. Anyone who can
assist, please contact me for details. I’ll provide the camera!
2) We are trying to locate/identify the family of Elizabeth W.
Tenney (aka Lizzy). We think she was born 3/17/1908 in St. Louis, MO and died
8/15/1989. She was a college senior in 1928, in a sorority and noted “Lennox
Hall booth” on a sticker that says “Women’s National Exposition in St. Louis,
new coliseum 1/29 – 2/9, 1927”. Anyone who recognizes any of this information,
please contact me, especially if this is YOUR Lizzy!
3) We are trying to locate/identify the family of Gordon Tenney who
was a photographer for “Black Star” and “Life” Magazines circa 1950’s. His
wife’s name was Lorna; she resided in Westport, CT prior to her death in 2005.
Gordon and Lorna may have had a son that passed away “years earlier in a car
crash”. Gordon may have died in the same accident. We estimate that Gordon was
born circa 1925-1935. Anyone who recognizes any of this information, please
contact me, especially if this is YOUR Gordon!
BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!
The Books (Volumes 2, 3 & 4) ARE DONE!
(no kidding)
The books were delivered to Hal Tenney (49 BOXES!) March 26th. Hal is
working VERY hard getting your orders organized to be sent to you – orders began
to be mailed out around April 1st (No Foolin!).
Thanks to all for your assistance in making sure we have correct shipping
and order information. If you have not yet done so, it is VITAL that Hal or I
receive complete shipping instructions different from your ORIGINAL order NOW!
Contact Hal at
haltenney@tenneyfamily.org or (916) 987-1021. Remember - We only have funds
to cover the cost of ONE shipment per order of Volumes 2, 3 and 4. Volume 1 will
be separate. ALL orders returned as undeliverable will be reshipped at
recipient’s request & expense only! For those of you who have orders and reside
in Southern California, Hal and Duane Dubke, who graciously offered to
“personally deliver” your books at last years reunion, are working on making
delivery arrangements. You will be contacted shortly.
We are pleased that all orders currently on record will be filled and we
will have a few extras. Once inventory has been depleted, new orders will be
“back-ordered” until Volume 1 is run.
I cannot adequately express my gratitude to all of you for your expressed
encouragement and patience during this massive project. It is, indeed,
remarkable to see this project come to fruition. Enjoy your books!

Book Tip
Each book will have an “Explanatory Notes” page that describes the
numbering system. Individual’s number begins with the volume number they are
listed in: example Ensign Thomas Tenney [1.32].
Due to the numerous “kissing cousins” creating double Tenney lines, some
individuals will have two numbers at their child listing which designates their
numbers in each volume:
Example Volume 3 listing: 3.143 Stephen Tenney [4.149]
Example Volume 4 listing 4.149 Stephen Tenney [3.143]
This allows cross referencing and quick locating of “double Tenney’s”.
There is one exception: In Volumes 3 & 4 – Moses Tenney, Sr.’s number is
the same 3.118. It just worked out that his individual number (118) was the same
in both volumes.
And just so you know (in case you didn’t):
Volume 1 – General Tenney Family – includes basic & general Tenney Family
information such as the Family Crest & description; Family Origins in England;
Passenger lists; Family Branches defined; general homesteads, histories, family
stories; cemetery listings; the Magna Charta & Royalty lineages; maps; pictures;
main index; & other additional general family info. Also in this first volume
will be included, in standard genealogical format Thomas & Ann’s family history,
their 2 children – Mercy and James that have not been traced; Thomas & Ann’s
daughter Hannah, recently “found”; Thomas’s ancestry of 3 generations; Thomas’s
brother William & family. This volume is an expansion of M.J.’s 1904 book &
includes 100 years of additional info not found in either of M.J.’s books.
Volume 2 – Descendants of John & wife Mercy Parrat – includes documented
descendants of John to present.
Volume 3 – Descendants of Thomas, Jr. & wife Margaret Hidden – includes
documented descendants of Thomas, Jr. to present.
Volume 4 – Descendants of Daniel & wives – Elizabeth Stickney & Mary Hardy -
includes documented descendants of Daniel to present
If you need assistance determining which volume(s) to order, please contact
me directly – I’ll be happy to look up which line you are descended from.
