Special Internet Article:
Searching for Tenneys on the World Wide Web

By George Painter
Tenney Times Internet Editor

It never ceases to amaze me how much "Tenney" information can be found on the World Wide Web, or Internet!    I'll remind you again of my favorite search engine: http://www.google.com.

You can spend hours or even days using "Google" by searching using different search patterns.   There are formal names and techniques for searches such as Boolean searches, but all you need to do is just be creative. What ever you are searching for, just boil it down to several most important words.  If searching for Tenney deaths in Florida you can search using different word orders of Tenney, death, Florida, genealogy, etc.  You can even use the county name in your search.  Try: Florida Deaths Tenney or Tenney Deaths Florida as an example.  You can use the plus sign (+) in between each word thereby ensuring that all three words appear on the page or use the three words enclosed with quotation marks to ensure that the three words appear together.  Try using the word "genealogy" in some of your search terms.

Boolean expressions include words like OR, AND, AND NOT, and NEAR can be used to create relationships among the keywords in your search query. Parentheses ( ), +, or “can also be used in the search box to group expressions similar to the way you would group mathematical functions.

Here are a few World Wide Web sites as an example of "Google" searches.   Do not forget to search on "Tenney" as well as alternate spellings:

1.  This search engine if for old newspapers in Wisconsin, courtesy of the  Wisconsin Historical Society.  If you search on Tenney, there are many interesting articles which have references to a "Tenney," including several on Major Horace A. Tenney, one of the Wisconsin pioneer newspaper editors.

2. This site has quite a few death records for Tenney and Tinney in Texas. http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/tx/tx_/txdeygen.htm

3.  Minnesota Historical Society Death Index, 1908-1959

4.  The State of Illinois recently put up a new searchable database - Death Index, 1916-1951 at: http://www2.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/idphdeathindex.html

5.  Do you like horror films:  Check this site out for a preview of Del Tenney's horror movies! http://www.briansdriveintheater.com/partybeach.html

There are many sites for and about Tenneys.  Just try searching on the word Tenney from your favorite web search engine or use this link for the Google search engine.
